City of Mikkeli

The City of Mikkeli is a modern provincial and commercial center with around 50,000 inhabitants. In the heart of the Finnish Lakeland, Mikkeli is surrounded by a beautiful landscape of forests, hills and lakes. The seasonal occupants of some 25,000 leisure cottages on the shores of Lake Saimaa and the 700 other lakes in the region add seasonal spice to life in Mikkeli.

Mikkeli is a lively town with active domestic and international businesses, institutions of higher education and a variety of cultural events. There are plenty of free-time activities on offer whether you’re an outdoors enthusiast or want to enjoy the local nightlife. Situated at the crossroads of five highways, Mikkeli is only 2.5 hours by car or train from Helsinki and an ideal starting point for exploring other parts of Finland.
