Programme structures
Aalto University adopted the Bologna-based degree structures in 2005. The BSc is a three-year programme, while the MSc is expected to be completed in two years. The Doctoral degree is a four-year programme.
B.Sc. Degree Programme Structure: (180 ECTS)
- Fundamental core courses for all B.Sc. students: 60 ECTS
- Intermediate studies: 60 ECTS (including Bachelor’s Thesis 10 ECTS and Thesis Seminar 2 ECTS)
- Minor studies: 24-30 ECTS
- Language and communication studies: 18 ECTS
- Free elective studies: 24-18 ECTS
M.Sc. Degree Programme Structure: (120 ECTS)
- Programme studies: 78 ECTS (Master’s Thesis and Seminar 30 ECTS)
- Minor studies: 24 ECTS
- Free elective studies: 18 ECTS
Doctoral Degree Programme: (240 ECTS)
- Common Scientific Doctoral Studies: 30 ECTS
- Major Subject Studies and Research-Related Studies: 30 ECTS
- Doctoral Dissertation: 180 ECTS
